4 people, including 2 girls, found dead in Doral home after murder-suicide: MDSO
Four people, including two girls, have been found dead in a Doral home in a murder-suicide, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Doral officers went to the home in the Doral Isles community on Tuesday night for a “welfare check” and found the bodies of Ryan Charles Whiten, 42; Melanie Lauren Hyer, 46; Savannah Whiten, 11; and Sienna Whiten, 8, according to MDSO, which has taken over the investigation.
All four were found with stab wounds, detectives say. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the four dead at the scene.
The gated community is near Florida’s Turnpike and Northwest 74th Street and the home is off 111th Court and 72nd Terrace.
The head of schools at Downtown Doral Charter Schools, Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg, sent an email to parents on Wednesday during the last week of school announcing the deaths of two students.
“Our community is mourning the loss of two of our beloved students. Our heartfelt sympathies are with their families, friends, faculty and staff at our schools. These students will be deeply missed,” Acevedo-Isenberg wrote in an email to the Miami Herald.
Doral Mayor Christi Fraga put out a statement on social media saying she knew Hyer.
“As a mother, and as someone who personally knew and admired the loving and dedicated mother at the center of this tragedy, this loss feels especially close to home,” Fraga wrote. “This tragedy is also a painful reminder that we must continue having honest conversations about mental health, domestic violence, emotional wellness, and the importance of speaking up when something feels wrong.”
Per their Facebook accounts, Hyer and Whiten both worked in real estate. Property records show they lived at 11149 NW 72nd Terrace.
According to Miami-Dade court records, Melanie Hyer divorced a man in March. He said he did not want to discuss his ex-wife or what happened when reached by the Miami Herald on Wednesday afternoon.
