Grass fire near Miami Executive Airport causes road closures in SW Miami-Dade
A grass fire broke out Sunday afternoon near Miami Executive Airport, causing smoke warnings and road closures in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded alongside Florida Forest Service to a one-alarm fire near Southwest 120th Street and Southwest 137th Avenue, a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson said. Over 10 units, including engines, water tender and ladder trucks, were working around 2:30 p.m.
The call was upgraded to a two-alarm fire because of a need for additional manpower.
No injuries have been reported, the spokesperson said. Crews were still working to put out the flames and protect the surrounding areas as of 5:35 p.m.
“People near the area may see or smell smoke,” MDFR said in a statement posted on X. “Avoid the area while crews continue working to put out the fire.”
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office also encouraged people to use alternate routes after deputies implemented road closures, according to a statement posted to X. There were closures as of 5:35 p.m. from Southwest 112th Street to 120th Street and between Southwest 137th Avenue and 142nd Avenue.
A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson didn’t respond to questions about how many acres were on fire, what caused it or containment status.
