Child found in Southwest Miami-Dade pond dies in hospital, sheriff’s office says
Deputies pulled a 6-year-old boy from a Southwest Miami-Dade pond Tuesday night, but the boy died at the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office received a 911 call around 6:20 p.m. about the missing child and began searching the area of Southwest 142nd Avenue and 287th Street, said Detective Joseph Peguero Rivera, a sheriff’s office spokesman.
After using helicopters and search dogs, deputies found the boy and jumped into the pond, pulled him out and began medical care, Peguero Rivera said. Miami-Dade paramedics took the child, who was in critical condition, to HCA Kendall Hospital, where he died, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office has not identified the child. His death is under investigation by homicide detectives, Peguero Rivera said.
