Miami-Dade man is groped at bus stop and stabbed in back by assaulter: deputies
A Miami-Dade man waiting for a bus was groped and then shortly after stabbed several times Thursday afternoon after confronting his assaulter, deputies say.
Xavier Lavonne Johnson, 39, is facing charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and resisting an officer without violence. As of Friday, he was in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Around 12:40 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies were flagged down by the unidentified man, who had stab wounds in his back after a 911 call came in about the attack in the area of Northwest 79th Street and 12th Avenue, deputies said.
He told authorities, the sheriff’s office said, that Johnson approached him at the bus stop and “inappropriately touched” his butt. He then verbally confronted Johnson, who pulled out a knife and began chasing the man across the street.
Johnson caught up to him and stabbed him repeatedly.
The man pointed to a nearby bus stop and informed deputies that Johnson was hiding behind it. They found him there and began to chase him down the street and caught him.
Detectives found surveillance-camera footage that showed the attack as the victim described it, deputies said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson admitted to chasing the man and stabbing him. He thought the man was talking about him to others in an offensive way so he confronted him and then stabbed him. Although, deputies wrote, “[Johnson] expressed remorse for his actions during the incident.”
