A man was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was crossing U.S. 1 in Cutler Bay early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was walking across the highway at Southwest 184th Street around 3:45 a.m. when he was hit by a Kia SUV, according to the FHP.

The man, who has not been named, was walking outside of the designated crosswalk when he was struck, said FHP Lt. Alejandro Camacho. The driver remained at the scene for first responders to arrive, Camacho said.

Troopers closed U.S. 1 for about two hours to investigate the incident.
