Frontier flight diverted to Miami International after passenger fight, MDSO says
An Alabama woman never completed her Atlanta flight after her plane was forced to touch down at Miami International Airport so deputies could arrest her for a scuffle that she got into with a passenger, authorities say.
Ebony Shyteria Harper, 31, is facing charges of battery and battery on a person 65 or older, her arrest report read.
On Monday, Harper was aboard a Frontier flight going from San Juan to Atlanta when she headed to the bathroom in the back of the plane, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said. During her walk, she leaned on Jimmie Baker, who was sitting in the last row and asked her to take her hand from his back.
Harper then touched Baker’s face, which prompted his wife, Lakisha, to tell Harper to stop touching her husband. In response, Harper touched Lakisha’s face, too, the report read.
Lakisha “struck” Harper and she swung back, kicking off a scuffle. Another Baker family member tried to stop the fight, but she was also punched several times by Harper, deputies said.
The flight was diverted to Miami International because of the scuffle. An FBI agent, Transportation Security agents and a Miami-Dade Sheriff sergeant all waited at the airport gate for Harper.
She was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she still remains as of Tuesday afternoon.
