Three men broke into Miami home, zip tied residents, police say

Miami Herald File

Three men forced their way into a Miami home Monday, then restrained its residents with zip ties and robbed them, police said.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. to the home invasion on the 3100 block of Southwest Eighth Street in Little Havana, according to an arrest affidavit. Miami police found two people yelling for help.

Three men had pushed their way inside while a man who lived there was opening the door, the affidavit said. He was punched in the stomach and tied up.

All three men are accused of demanding money from him. He was coerced into opening a black safe that contained about $400 in cash, and a gold necklace, gold bracelet and gold ring were taken off his body.

A woman who also lives in the home told police she was woken by the sound of her roommate yelling for police, the affidavit said.

She was immediately struck and restrained with zip ties on her hands and feet, and one of the men covered her mouth while the group ransacked the home, according to the affidavit.

Officers arrested three men at the home: Agustin Hernandez, 46, Rogelio Espina, 54, and Yoamil Napoles, 50. The arrest report does not say if the suspects knew the victims.

Hernandez, Espina and Napoles are all charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm, kidnapping and aggravated battery, court records show. All three were being held at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday night.
