One injured after Brightline train hits lawnmower in Miami Shores, officials say
A Brightline train hit a riding lawnmower at the Miami Shores Country Club, sending one person to the hospital Monday morning, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said.
The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. at the club, located at 10000 Biscayne Blvd.
The 74-year-old man driving the lawnmower was able to jump off the vehicle before it was struck by the train, but was injured in the process, said Capt. Christine Herbert with the Miami Shores Police Department.
Paramedics took the person to a hospital, the department said. Herbert said the man, who is a maintenance worker, was not injured in the strike, but rather from the fall from the lawnmower.
The Florida East Coast Railway tracks that the Brightline train was traveling on go through the country’s club golf course. The tracks came before the club, which opened in 1939.
