Miami-Dade County is offering key assistance for obtaining or reinstating Florida driver’s licenses through an easier and more affordable process — but only for a limited time.

The initiative, known as Operation Green Light, began Monday, Oct. 6, and aims to provide additional benefits for local taxpayers.

The program essentially allows residents to reinstate suspended driver’s licenses and reduce the number of suspensions, while also providing help to settle outstanding court obligations for those who meet eligibility requirements.

Benefits of the new Operation Green Light

Miami-Dade Tax Collector Dariel Fernández celebrated the launch of the initiative and the expanded collaboration with Clerk of Courts and Comptroller Juan Fernández-Barquin to improve access to driver’s license services during Operation Green Light.

“This collaboration helps residents resolve multiple issues in a single visit — paying court fines at the Clerk’s Office and renewing or reinstating their driver’s licenses with our team,” Fernández said.

“It’s an easy and convenient way to help people get back on the road safely and legally. It helps them recover and return to work,” he added.

One of the new features this year is the waiver of the $6.25 service fee normally charged for driver’s license transactions during Operation Green Light, allowing residents to save money out of pocket.

In addition to mobile units, the Tax Collector’s Office offers year-round driver’s license services at two permanent centers located at the North Dade Justice Center and the Gerstein Courthouse.

The previous edition of Operation Green Light was held in April. According to an NBC 6 report, about $250,000 in fees were waived for participating residents.
