A man and child are dead after a car crash near South Miami Heights on Friday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred on the eastbound lanes of State Road 994 and Southwest 117th Avenue. Troopers arrived at the area after reports of a crash with multiple fatalities, involving a black Lexus sedan and a gray GMC SUV.
The driver of the Lexus died at the scene, while a child in the car was airlifted to the Kendall HCA, where he later died, according to FHP.
State Road 994 was closed for hours with traffic diverted onto Southwest 117th Avenue.
