Rush hour crash on SR 836 causes major traffic jam near loanDepot Park in Miami
Traffic continues to grow Wednesday evening as a major crash on State Road 836 has shutdown lanes for hours — slowing commuters trying to go west from the Miami-area.
Around 3:30 p.m., the crash, involving a tractor-trailer, occurred on SR 836 West near Northwest 12th Street by loanDepot Park, according to Florida Highway Patrol. Minor injuries were reported.
A fuel leak began from two saddle tanks on the trailer, requiring Miami Fire Rescue’s hazmat team to contain it. About 100 gallons of diesel spilled onto the highway, Miami Fire Rescue said. Crews controlled the spread and stopped the leak.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was seen by paramedics on scene but did not require being taken to a hospital.
The highway was fully closed at one point, but by 7:20 p.m., only two right lanes were blocked still causing traffic delays. Ramps were also reopened the ramps from Interstates 95 and 395 to the Dolphin Expressway.
Roads near the area were marked traffic speeds at stopped, the most congested level.
