A fatal car crash closed the southbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway for hours Wednesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened on State Road 826 around 5:30 p.m. in Hialeah Gardens near Okeechobee Road, according to Florida Department of Transportation.

Per the Florida Highway Patrol, a white Audi sedan crashed into the concrete barrier, and then hit a Ford pickup truck before overturning.

FHP’s Lt. Alejandro Camacho said both the man driving the Audi and his woman passenger were ejected from the car. The woman died in the crash.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the man to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not immediately known if they were wearing seatbelts. There were no reported injuries involved with the pickup truck.

The southbound lanes were closed until around 9 p.m.
