Suspect in Hialeah murder last month caught in Mexico, Miami-Dade detectives say
A woman who is wanted in connection with the murder of a man in Hialeah in August has been captured in Mexico, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives said.
Ariely Alvarez Cabrera, 27, was taken into custody Monday after an investigation that included Hialeah police, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and Mexican law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said.
Alvarez Cabrera was with her boyfriend, Alfredo Carballo Gonzalez on Aug. 3 when detectives say he killed Daylon Fleitas Gonzalez, who was 37, said Detective Samantha Choon, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
Detectives say Fleitas Gonzalez met Carballo Gonzalez, 32, in the area of 95th Avenue and Northwest 106th Street. Carballo Gonzalez got into Fleitas Gonzalez’s pickup truck and the two men began fighting. After the fight, detectives say Carballo Gonzalez placed a recycling bin in the bed of the truck and drove away.
The truck was followed by another vehicle that detectives say was driven by Alvarez Cabrera.
Homicide detectives and a sheriff’s office helicopter crew located the truck on Aug. 8. Nearby, they found the recycling bin with Fleitas Gonzalez’s body stuffed inside, Choon said. The sheriff’s office has not elaborated on how he was killed.
When Carballo Gonzalez and Alvarez Cabrera went missing, they had their 5-month-old baby son with them. Choon said the baby has since been found safe.
Alvarez Cabrera is being extradited back to Florida to face charges.
Carballo Gonzalez remains at large “and should be considered armed and dangerous,” the sheriff’s office said. Detectives ask anyone who has information on his whereabouts to call (305) 471-8477.
