Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a man who they say struck and killed a bicyclist with his car last week — and drove off without rendering aid or calling 911.

Gregory Hughes, 63, was riding his bicycle westbound along Northwest 103rd Street on Aug. 25, at around 11:30 p.m., when he was hit from behind by a 2013 Honda Civic. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

The Honda’s driver, who detectives say is 45-year-old Michelson Jeancy, drove off. Images of the car were captured on several security camera in the area, according to Jeancy’s arrest report. The images showed the car had front-end damage, the report states.

On Saturday, traffic homicide detectives tracked the car down to Jeancy’s home at the 180th block of Northwest 40th Street in Miami, according to the report. The car still had damage to its front end, detectives said.

They questioned Jeancy, who confessed to hitting Hughes after being read his rights, detectives said. Jeancy also told detectives that he took his car to an autobody shop to get the windshield replaced, per the report.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Jeancy was being held at Metrowest Detention Center on a $20,000 bond on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal crash and evidence tampering. Information on his legal representation was not immediately available.
