1 dead, 1 detained after shooting unfolds in Cutler Bay near a school, MDSO says
A man was shot dead at a Cutler Bay intersection near a school Wednesday afternoon, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
Shortly before 1 p.m., deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics arrived at the area of 97th Avenue and Southwest 184th Street and found the man, who was wounded by gunfire, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies detained another man, “who will speak with investigators to determine his involvement,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said.
Paramedics took the wounded man, who was not immediately identified, to a hospital, where he died.
The shooting happened close to Holy Rosary- St. Richard’s Catholic School, but the sheriff’s office stressed in a press release that the incident had no connection to the shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school that day in which two children were killed and several more wounded.
The sheriff’s office said it was not immediately clear if the victim and gunman were in cars when the shooting happened.
