A man was killed — and two others were seriously injured — in a wrong-way crash on the Palmetto Expressway early Monday morning in Miami-Dade, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at around 1 a.m. when a white Mercedes SUV was heading the wrong way on the southbound lanes of the highway near Okeechobee Road, FHP says. The Mercedes collided into a white Dodge SUV.

The Mercedes overturned, and the front passenger in the vehicle died on the scene, according to FHP. The drivers of both the Mercedes and the Dodge SUV were taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

A stretch of the Palmetto was closed for about five hours as troopers investigated the collision.
