2 officers, 1 civilian hospitalized after shooting in North Miami, officials say
Two police officers and a civilian were rushed to hospitals Wednesday afternoon after a shooting in North Miami, officials say.
Around 5 p.m., North Miami police officers called in for back-up in the area near the 400 block of Northeast 137th Street, the department said. Other officers and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies descended into the community.
Sometime after, a man and the officers exchanged gunfire. What kicked off the shooting is unclear.
The man was struck multiple times and taken to a trauma center. Two North Miami officers were also injured and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said two people are in custody but have not released information on their identify.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, as North Miami Police Department’s policy.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on the shooting or what happened before is asked to call North Miami police, FDLE or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
