Ex-Air Force officer from Miami gets 5 years after sexually assaulting woman overseas
Six years after a former Air Force member from Miami sexually assaulted another service member while stationed at Royal Air Force Mildenhall in England, he’s been sentenced to five years in prison, federal authorities say.
On Thursday, James Loubeau was sentenced and also ordered by Judge Federico A. Moreno to serve 20 months of supervised release after his prison time ends, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Florida said.
Loubeau, 36, pleaded guilty to two counts of abusive sexual contact under the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act in April. As part of the plea, he also admitted to the sexual assault on May 4, 2019.
That night, Loubeau and the woman met at a bar on the Air Force base where she drank several alcoholic beverages, authorities said. Later, a friend took her back to her on-base housing and helped her into bed before leaving.
In the overnight hours, she awoke to Loubeau on top of her in her bed. Almost immediately she called two friends to say she had been raped.
He was caught on surveillance video walking from her room to his dorm room, and DNA testing also linked him to the sexual assault.
