Man accused of hitting Florida City murder victim in head with brick after he was shot
Police have arrested a man who they say kicked a homicide victim before hitting him in the head with a brick moments after he was shot in Florida City in May.
Luis Guillermo Alvarez, 55, was cuffed around 5 p.m. Saturday in Homestead after a Florida City officer said he rode his bicycle in the middle of Krome Avenue traffic, police say. An officer found a .25 MM handgun and a drug pipe in his bag, according to his arrest report.
Alvarez, who police say is homeless, was identified by witnesses as taking part in a May 24 homicide at 1445 NW Second Court in Florida City, according to his arrest report.
That’s when 54-year-old Christopher Shannon Allen was shot several times with a .40 caliber handgun by 19-year-old Jaylen Lavar Fisher during an argument, according to police.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives, who took over the case from Florida City police, booked Fisher into Metro West Detention Center on a second-degree murder charge. He remains in jail as of Monday.
Witnesses told police that right after Allen was shot, Alvarez walked up to him while he was on the ground and began kicking him. He then picked up a brick and hit Allen on the head with it, per the arrest report.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics took Allen to Jackson South Medical Center, where he died. The Medical Examiner ruled that Allen’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and gunshot wounds, the arrest report states.
Police booked Alvarez into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a charge of second-degree murder. As of Monday, a judge had not set his bond.
