Northeast Miami-Dade jewelry story robbed at gunpoint

Three employees of a Northeast Miami-Dade jewelry store were squirted with pepper spray and tied up after three robbers — pretending to be customers — demanded keys to the safe and jewelry cases at gunpoint, according to Miami-Dade police.

The heist happened at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Burt's Jewelers, 1676 NE Miami Gardens Dr.

According to police, the robbers managed to steal between $50,000 and $100,000 worth of jewelry and $1,500 in cash before leaving through the back of the store.

The store is located inside the Shops at Skylake, a busy strip mall that houses Publix and T.J. Maxx.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477) or 866-471-8477.
