Dade deputy is sidelined with pay after being accused of beating up fiancée
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy punched his fiancée, dragged her by the hair and pulled out a handgun late Wednesday night outside the couple’s Pompano Beach apartment building, according to a Broward Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Terrance Dion Chester, who has served with Miami-Dade for five years, has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation and also faces charges of domestic battery, improper exhibit of a firearm and felony armed kidnapping.
Chester, 28, on Friday remained in a Broward County jail on a total bond of $90,000. Information on his legal representation was not immediately available.
According to his arrest report, his fiancée told deputies she and Chester were arguing over finances when he became violent. The argument continued outside in the parking lot of the building, located at 811 NW 6th Avenue, when Chester punched the woman and pulled her by the hair toward the home, according to the report.
When they went back inside the apartment, Chester let go of her, and she took the 2-year-old child they share and walked outside to wait for BSO deputies, the report states.
Deputies obtained a neighbor’s security-camera footage, which showed Chester punching and dragging the woman, and also forcing her against a fence and punching her twice, according to the report.
He then unholstered a Glock 9 mm pistol and held it pointing down next to his right leg, deputies said in their report.
Deputies arrived at the building around 11 p.m. and arrested Chester, who was standing outside with the gun in his waistband, without incident, the report states. The gun was loaded with 15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, deputies said in their report.
He declined to speak with the deputies after they read him his rights, according to the report.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Miami Herald that Chester serves with the agency but “is currently relieved of duty.”
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released a statement saying she is “deeply troubled and angered by the arrest of one of my deputies on serious domestic related charges.”
“This conduct is completely unacceptable and stands in direct violation of our values and the law. I want to make it absolutely clear; no one is above the law!” the statement read.
