Former NFL star Antonio Brown is back in trouble with the law as he now faces an attempted murder charge in connection with a shooting in mid-May outside a popular social media influencer’s boxing event in Miami, according to a newly released arrest warrant.

On Saturday morning, May 17, social media erupted with videos and posts showing Brown allegedly being jumped by multiple people trying to steal his jewelry outside the event held by influencer Adin Ross at a warehouse.

Shortly after, other videos depicted the All-Pro wide receiver appearing to hold a gun and run out of frame — seconds later, gunshots were heard.

Brown was detained, but then let go

Miami police confirmed that night they had investigated what occurred, but it didn’t lead to any arrests. Brown was detained briefly before eventually being let go.

On Wednesday, that changed when a Miami-Dade judge signed an arrest warrant charging Brown with attempted murder with a firearm. A bond was also set at $10,000, with the stipulation that he had to remain under house arrest until the trial.

According to the warrant, Miami police officers arrived at 221 NE 67th St. after gunshots were reported in the area. Officers made contact with off-duty Florida Highway Patrol units working as security at the amateur boxing match. Officers said they made contact with Brown who had already been detained.

According to FHP Lt. Camacho, he was alerted to gunshots outside the building. When he stepped out, he witnessed Brown involved in a physical fight with another man. Camacho gave loud verbal commands for them to stop, and both complied. However, witnesses then told the lieutenant that Brown was the shooter and might be armed. Although Brown was detained and searched, no firearm was found on him at the time, and the other man had fled the scene.

Police found two spent shell casings and a damaged right-handed holster outside the venue, but no shooting victim was present, so Brown was released pending further investigation.

The next day, detectives reviewed security footage from the event. The video showed Brown, dressed in green clothing and an army helmet, punching a man later identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, 41. The fight escalated as two others joined Brown in attacking Nantambu, according to the arrest warrant.

Security broke up the fight, and Nantambu walked away. The footage then shows Brown struggling with event security guard Eric Bauer behind a white SUV. Brown appeared to forcibly take a black firearm from Bauer’s right side before running after Nantambu.

Cellphone video shared on social media confirmed the next moments: Brown, now armed, chased Nantambu onto the sidewalk and fired two shots from close range. Nantambu is seen ducking as shots rang out.

Alleged victim comes forward

Detectives later contacted Nantambu, who agreed to an interview at Miami police headquarters on May 21 with his attorney present. Nantambu described being punched by Brown and then attacked by multiple people. After security separated them, he tried to leave — but says Brown chased him with a gun and fired at him, possibly grazing his neck.

The two struggled over the gun before ending up on the ground. As police arrived, Nantambu said Brown hid the weapon under a dark piece of clothing and walked away. Fearing for his life, Nantambu left the scene and sought medical care at Aventura Hospital.

Nantambu later positively identified Brown as the shooter, according to the report, both from surveillance footage and a photo lineup. He also confirmed that he has known Brown personally since 2022.

It’s unclear if Brown has been arrested or if he has obtained a lawyer.

Brown grew up in Liberty City and graduated from Miami Norland High School. During his NFL career, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Raiders, the New England Patriots and won a Super Bowl championship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
