After a four-month closure, this Metrorail station has finally reopened
After closing down in January for a series of repairs, the Coconut Grove Metrorail station has reopened with new enhancements.
During the hiatus, the station was repainted and fitted with new lighting, and its restrooms were fully remodeled with new stalls and water fountains. Granite benches were added alongside a refurbished elevator, waterproof tiles and new signage to guide riders through key areas, including the parking garage. A new escalator is expected to be completed this summer.
“I am glad to see that the renovations have been completed to not only improve the station’s functionality but also make it safer and more welcoming for everyone,” Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a press release.
The project is part of the broader Grove Central development initiative, which has brought mixed-income apartments and retail stores that are connected to the Metrorail station, Miami-Dade’s bus system and the city’s trolley network. The developer, GRP Grove Metro Station LLC, contributed $6.1 million toward the station’s renovations.
The Coconut Grove station had about 1,500 to 2,000 weekday riders last year.
