Miami-Dade bus driver accused of fatally shooting two passengers has quit his job
The Miami-Dade bus operator accused of fatally shooting two passengers last weekend has quit his county job after facing likely termination, according to a county spokesperson.
Oshane Griffiths, 30, on Thursday filled out a county form stating he was resigning immediately. Griffiths was suspended after the March 30 shooting on his bus in Miami Gardens. County rules do not permit bus operators to be armed.
Griffiths is accused of fatally shooting Lonnie Stephenwade Harley, 44, and Ejaash Bail Carter, 46, during a dispute. Details about the incident have not been released, including the nature of the dispute, who was involved and whether anyone else on the bus had a weapon.
Juan Mendieta, a spokesperson for the county’s Department of Transportation and Public Works, confirmed the operator involved was Griffiths. No charges have been announced in the shootings.
A person who answered a phone listed as belonging to Griffiths in a records database declined to speak to a reporter on Friday. County records show Griffiths was a relatively new driver, having joined the transit system in 2022. His annual salary was about $49,000.
In the resignation form Griffiths submitted, a typed statement said: “I would like to thank Miami-Dade Transit for allowing me the opportunity for being a public servant.”
