Authorities on Tuesday identified the two men shot and killed by a Miami-Dade Transit bus driver after an argument — possibly over a bicycle — broke out over the weekend.

The bus driver, who has not been identified, killed 44-year-old Lonnie Stephenwade Harley and 46-year-old Ejaash Bail Carter, Miami Gardens police said.

In the last 25 years, Carter has lived all over South Florida, namely Fort Lauderdale and a North Miami Beach hotel, according to one datatbase, but most recently near Richmond Heights. He was once a cook at Golden Corral, his Facebook profile noted but he hasn’t posted on his page since 2016.

Harley spent his adulthood living in southern Broward County and northern Miami-Dade, most recently in a North Miami-Dade apartment.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday, an argument sparked between bus passengers and the driver on the No. 77 Metrobus, a route that starts in Miami Gardens and ends in downtown Miami at the Government Center. It runs all night and is one of the busiest routes in the county, with an average of roughly 4,000 riders on Sunday.

Sources with knowledge of the shooting told the Herald the argument also involved one passenger regarding a bicycle. It’s not clear if the two men were involved in the aforementioned bike discussion nor how they were shot.

The driver was placed on administrative leave and is in the process of being terminated, the county’s transit union said.
