Boyfriend charged with murdering girlfriend, Miami-Dade deputies say. He fled to Texas
A 20-year-old woman was gunned down in her home Saturday, and after a quick investigation, deputies say her boyfriend was the culprit. He fled to Texas and was caught Tuesday.
Sometime before 7:50 p.m., Delilah Ruiz, 20, was at home when her boyfriend, 19-year-old Elijah Clarke, came over and began arguing with her over money, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said. Things escalated when Clarke pulled out a gun and shot Ruiz.
He got in a car driven by his friend, 18-year-old Christopher Valdes, and sped off. Deputies were called, and they found Ruiz. She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.
On Monday, Valdes was arrested by Miami-Dade deputies, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Miramar police. Clarke fled to Houston, Texas, where he was arrested Tuesday by police.
He was with two other people, 19-year-old Rafael Torralba and a 17-year-old, who were also arrested and charged with hindering apprehension and prosecution of a case.
Clarke was charged with murder, but deputies did not say what, if any, charges Valdes will be facing. It was not immediately clear if he had retained an attorney.
