Doral combines National Night out with city’s backpack giveaway

El Nuevo Herald

It didn’t take long for Demo to find what he was looking for. And when he did, the crowd went crazy.

That’s because the Doral K-9 officer discovered an “explosive” with only his nose.

The demonstration was part of Doral’s National Night Out and Back-to-School event Tuesday. Communities around South Florida and nationwide held events Tuesday to bring awareness to crime prevention.

In Doral, hundreds came out for the event, which included a backpack giveaway, bounce houses for kids, police demonstrations and free food. “I think it’s a great idea to have both together,” said Doral resident Robert Lendof, who watched the K-9 demonstration with his 12-year-old daughter Emily.

“I didn’t know the dog’s were that smart,” she said.

Doral Mayor Luigi Boria said marrying the two events together was a “perfect match...We wanted to welcome the new year and acknowledge how important the police department is,” he said.
