Woman hit by personal watercraft on Pace Picnic Island

A woman sitting on the beach at Pace Picnic Island in Biscayne Bay Monday afternoon was hit by an out-of-control personal watercraft, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

The woman, who has not been identified, was on the island — off Northeast 20th Terrace and North Bayshore Drive — at about 2:30 p.m. when she was hit.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the man “somehow lost control of his watercraft” and ended up on the beach where the woman was.

She sustained serious injuries to her face, arms and legs, Carroll said.

A Miami Fire Rescue boat took the woman back to Sea Isle Marina, where paramedics were waiting. She was taken to Ryder Trauma Center.

The man on the personal watercraft was not injured.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating.
