Cars are freed after partial closure of MIA garage due to fire
A fire that consumed four cars Wednesday in a Miami International Airport parking garage left more than 50 cars trapped as damage was assessed. After two days, debris was cleared, and vehicles were relocated. However, the garage will continue to see a partial closure for weeks.
By Friday night, airport crews dutifully removed the leftover husks of the burnt cars and those undamaged. A cordoned-off Flamingo Garage area will remain closed and consists of about 90 parking spaces out of the airport’s 8,233 spots — just over 1% of total parking availability.

That area will remain closed for the foreseeable future, airport spokesperson Greg Chin said. While damage was not substantial, repairs still need to be made.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, multiple cars were engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished, but four vehicles caught fire and eight were damaged. No one was injured.
Chin said the airport is seeing no operational impacts due to the blocked parking spots, and no shortage of spaces has been reported.
