A man died at the hospital after he drove his car into a canal in southwest Miami-Dade County early Friday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man crashed his Nissan SUV through the barrier along the canal, located at the 4200 block of 166th Court, around 2:40 a.m., said Detective Argemis Colome, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics took him to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Colome said.

The sheriff’s office has not released the man’s identity. What caused him to go through the barrier is under investigation, Colome said.
