Accessing resources such as financial capital and mentorship can be difficult for minority business owners. With support from the fintech company Fiserv, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is launching a new program to help them.

The Diverse Business Empowerment Membership Program will give eight businesses one-year memberships to the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. Benefits of membership include access to networking, educational seminars and more.

“About 92% of all small businesses in Miami-Dade County are diverse,” said Marco Ramirez, the chamber’s vice president of business development. “The biggest problem is that these businesses don’t know how to get these resources. By bringing them in, we can access them and hope to do that with this program this year.”

Eligible businesses must be based in Miami-Dade County or Broward County or have an operational presence in either area and be minority-owned, woman-owned, or owned by a U.S. military veteran, a member of the LGBTQ community or a person with a disability.

Businesses must also have less than 10 employees and earn less than $1 million in annual revenue. The deadline for applications is Saturday, Nov. 30. Selected businesses will be announced on Monday, Dec. 2, and the program will start in January 2025.
