Police identify FIU graduate who was struck and killed by a private school bus
The 22-year-old recent Florida International University graduate who was fatally struck by a private school bus near the school’s main campus Wednesday morning has been identified as Anjali Persaud, according to police.
Miami-Dade police say that at about 8:25 a.m., the bus driver was on his regular route to drop off nine students at school. He was headed north on Southwest Fourth Street and 109th Avenue when he felt a “thump” as he attempted to make a right turn onto Southwest Third Street.
The driver got off the bus and realized he had hit Persaud, police said. Police have not identified the driver.
Police say Persaud graduated Florida International University over the summer. She had a bachelor’s degree in business administration and worked as a marketing intern, per her LinkedIn.
She was struck just a few blocks from FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus off Southwest Eighth Street and 107th Avenue.
She was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where she died of her injuries, police said.
It is unclear if the driver, who remained on the scene, will face any charges or citations.
Police say the cause is under investigation.
