One dead, another flown to hospital after early morning crash on Krome Avenue, officials say

A crash left one man dead, another flown to a hospital and roads shut down Wednesday morning in Northwest Miami-Dade, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

At about 5 a.m. a Dodge pickup and a Ford pickup truck crashed at the intersection of Okeechobee Road and Krome Avenue at the eastern edge of the Everglades, according to FHP.

The driver of the Dodge died on the road and the driver of the Ford was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, according to FHP.

The southbound lanes of Okeechobee Road were closed and traffic off Krome Avenue backed up to Hialeah, NBC 6 reported.

Roads opened at about 10 a.m., according to FHP.

Details of what led to the crash were not immediately available.
