Publix and Costco open Veterans Day? What about schools and post office? What to know

On Veterans Day, we honor those who have served in the military. While some government services are closed or have reduced hours, supermarkets, big box stores and malls will be open.

Here’s what to know:

Stores and malls

Open regular hours: Supermarkets including Publix and Aldi, pharmacies including CVS and Walgreens, South Florida malls, Walmart, Target, even Costco (which closes on Memorial Day and Independence Day) will all be open for business.

Mass transit

Miami-Dade: Regular weekday schedule for Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover.

Broward: Broward County Transit will run on a regular weekday schedule.

Tri-Rail: Regular Monday schedule.

Garbage

This will happen on Monday in Miami.

Miami-Dade: Regular garbage pickup.

Miami: Regular garbage pickup.

Broward: Regular garbage pickup.

Fort Lauderdale: Regular garbage pickup.

Others: For other municipalities, check with your city.

Mail

No mail service other than Priority Express. Post office branches will be closed.

Banks

The Federal Reserve and bank branches will be closed.

Stock markets

New York Stock Exchange: Open.

NASDAQ: Normal session.

Courts

Miami-Dade: Closed.

Broward: Closed.

Schools

Miami-Dade: No class.

Broward: No class.

Libraries

Miami-Dade: All branches closed.

Broward: All library branches closed except the NSU-Alvin Sherman Library.
