FHP seeks driver involved in fatal hit-and-run crash on SR 826 near I-95
The Florida Highway Patrol is hoping a surveillance clip of a deadly hit-and-run accident over the weekend will help troopers find the driver who took off after hitting and killing a man on a scooter.
The accident, which killed German Albelda Martinez, happened at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning on the eastbound lanes of State Road 826, two-tenths of a mile east of I-95.
The clip shows a car, which troopers believe is either a 1999 or 2000, green Mazda Protégé, cut across several lanes and hit the back of the scooter. Though dark, pieces of the scooter can be scene flying into the roadway.
According to FHP, the driver of the Protégé continued to drive on the grass shoulder and never stopped.
Martinez was thrown from the scooter, which ended up on the shoulder.
Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. Lynn Stine at 305-475-2500 or Crime Stoppers 305 471-8477.
