Two people were hospitalized on Friday afternoon after a boat caught on fire and was quickly engulfed in flames, according to authorities.

At around 12:45 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived at the 1200 block of 79th Street in response to an “explosive alert.” The area is off Pelican Harbor and the 79th Street Causeway.

Firefighters arrived to find a “vessel fully engulfed in flames” in the water, authorities say.

Officials say crews worked quickly to put the fire out and transport two people to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
