A motorcyclist was hit by a car on an overpass near Miami International Airport on Monday night. The rider died after being knocked onto the railroad tracks below the highway, police said.

The fatal crash happened on exit 2 of State Road 112 adjacent to MIA, according to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a Miami-Dade County police spokesman.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics determined the man was dead when they arrived shortly after 6 p.m., Rodriguez said, adding that both the car and motorbike were traveling in the same direction on the highway at the time of the crash.

The car’s driver remained on the scene, according to police.

The department’s Traffic Homicide unit is investigating the crash.
