Two toddlers in critical condition after Krome Avenue crash in Miami-Dade, FHP says
Two toddlers are in critical condition after a car crash Sunday afternoon on Krome Avenue in Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of Krome Ave. and SW 256th St. in the the Redland, said Lt. Alex Camacho, an FHP spokesman.
A Toyota sedan was traveling south on Krome when it struck the right side of a Mercedes-Benz SUV that was heading east on 256th St. and “failed to yield the right of way,” Camacho said.
The two young children in the Toyota were ejected from the car, Camacho added, and landed on the roadway.
Paramedics took the children to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition, according to the FHP. The drivers of both vehicles were hospitalized in serious condition, Camacho said.
FHP did not immediately respond to a follow-up question asking if the children were restrained in car seats when the crash happened. The FHP did not release the names of the people involved in the crash nor the ages of the children.
Troopers closed Krome Ave. for about two hours during the preliminary investigation.
