A 7-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a car as she walked into a Miami pharmacy Monday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2024, according to police.

One person died and three others were seriously injured in a single-car crash on the Palmetto Expressway late Friday morning.

The crash happened around 11:40 a.m. near the NW 17th Avenue ramp, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Shortly before 2 p.m., the eastbound lanes of the highway were still closed, the FHP said.

Lt. Alex Camacho, an FHP spokesman, said a gray Honda sedan was traveling east when the driver swerved to avoid hitting road debris. The driver lost control of the car, which went onto the grassy shoulder and collided on its left side with a tree, Camacho said.

The man in the back left seat died on the scene from his injuries, Camacho said.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the three other occupants to Jackson North Medical Center’s trauma hospital — two by helicopter, one by ambulance — a department spokesperson told the Miami Herald.
