Is Publix open Labor Day? Costco? What about pharmacy and transit hours? Here’s a list
For many, Labor Day means a Monday off, one last three-day weekend burst of summer spirit. But for some others, Labor Day means laboring, especially if there’s holiday overtime pay to be made by the employee and profits to be made by the business.
Here’s what’s open and what’s closed on Labor Day in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas.:
Supermarkets
Publix: Open normal hours, but pharmacies closed.
Winn-Dixie: Open normal hours.
Sedano’s: Open regular hours.
Aldi: Open, but many stores close at 6 p.m.
Fresh Market: Open normal hours.
Whole Foods Market: Open normal hours.
Price Choice Markets: Open, but check your location for hours.
Big box retailers
Walmart: Normal hours.
Target: Normal hours. Pharmacies might open at 10 a.m. instead of 9 a.m., depending on location.
Costco: Closed.
BJ’s Warehouse Club: Regular hours.
Shopping malls
All are open with mostly normal hours.
Pharmacies
Walgreens: Expect normal store hours, but closed pharmacies.
CVS/Navarro: Expect normal store hours, but altered hours for pharmacies, many of which will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mass transit
Miami-Dade: Metrobus, MetroConnect and MetroLink will run on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail and Metromover operate on a weekend schedule. Special Transportation Services (STS) customers can reserve or cancel trips by calling 305-871-1111.
Broward: Broward County Transit buses will run on a Sunday holiday schedule. From 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., you can still call 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) to help plan paratransit-stops and bus services. From 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., the Broward Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Lauderhill Transit Center and the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach will be staffed.
Tri-Rail: Tri-Rail will run on its weekend/holiday schedule and requests passengers be present 20 minutes before the train arrives.
Garbage
Miami-Dade: Normal pickup.
Miami: Normal pickup.
Broward: Normal pickup.
Fort Lauderdale: Normal pickup.
All others, check with your municipality.
U.S. mail
U.S. Postal Service branches will be closed and regular mail delivery will not be made on Monday, Labor Day.
Stock markets
Both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will be closed on Monday.
County offices, courts, schools, libraries
Miami-Dade: Closed.
Broward: Closed.
