A crash involving a marked Miami-Dade police cruiser has a street partially closed

A crash involving a Miami-Dade police officer in a marked SUV and a sedan had part of an avenue closed in Miami during Monday morning rush hour.

Southbound Northwest Second Avenue was closed from 71st Street to Northwest 72nd Terrace. Traffic remains slow in the area, so Miami Avenue might be a better option.

Miami-Dade police say the sedan driver was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, and the officer wasn’t injured.

NBC6’s traffic helicopter spotted a crumpled sedan next to a fire hydrant. Over closer to the corner of Northwest Second Avenue and 71st Street, the police vehicle’s grill was smashed into a light pole.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more is learned.
