Miami firefighters were called to a fire at a restaurant early Tuesday morning in the Design District.

Firefighters were extinguishing the blaze shortly after 6 a.m. at Square Pie City, 3918 N. Miami Ave., according to Miami Fire Rescue. The restaurant, known for it Detroit-style square pizzas, is in the ground level of the mixed-use building. Apartments are on the second floor; a woman who called in the fire escaped unharmed.

While smoke was seen coming from the inside of the restaurant, the fire could not be seen from the outside. The fire was contained in the pizza parlor and under control within 20 minutes.

No business owners were present during the fire.

An elderly man was assisted in getting out of the building by fire rescue workers and received treatment on the scene for smoke inhalation.

A fire investigator is looking into what started the blaze.
