Man may have been mauled to death by his dog at Southwest Miami-Dade home, police say
A 29-year-old man may have been mauled to death by his dog after police say a friend found his body with multiple bites inside a Southwest Miami-Dade home on Tuesday night.
The man, identified as Alexander Torres, hadn’t been seen for several days prior to his body being found. Now, the medical examiner will have to determine the cause of death before it’s known whether the dog was responsible, police said.
A friend of Alexander Andres Torres made the gruesome discovery around 7 p.m. in the house’s garage at 12350 SW 104th Ter. in Kendall, police said in a news release. It’s unclear when Torres died, police said.
Late Wednesday morning, several people stood in front of Torres’ home They declined to speak with reporters.
“The family and friends are in mourning,” a man in the group told the Miami Herald.
“A family friend of the deceased victim hadn’t heard from this person since around Sunday,” Detective Andre Martin, a police spokesman, told reporters near the scene Tuesday night. “That person then came to the residence to check on their friend where they found him deceased in the garage of the home.”
Miami-Dade County Animal Services described the dog in a statement released Wednesday as “a large brown brindle/white male terrier mix.”
“The dog has been retrieved and is currently under the custody of Animal Services,” the statement reads. “Our team continues providing assistance to MDPD in their ongoing investigation regarding this incident.”
