Veterans Day won’t affect Publix. But what about mail? Schools? What’s open, what’s not
Veterans Day this year is on a Saturday. But the federally designated holiday is Friday, and that means some public offices and services will be closed.
Supermarkets, pharmacies, big-box retailers and malls will be open both days as usual.
Here’s what to know about what’s running, and when, and what’s not:
Mass transit
Miami-Dade Transit: Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will run a regular weekday schedule on Friday and weekend schedule on Saturday. Special Transportation Services also will run as normal. But, transit offices, like all county offices, will be closed on Friday.
Broward County Transit: Buses will run on a normal weekday schedule on Friday and a regular Saturday schedule.
Tri-Rail: Regular weekday service on Friday, weekend/holiday schedule on Saturday.
Garbage pickup
Miami: Regular pickup.
Miami-Dade: Regular pickup.
Fort Lauderdale: Regular pickup
Broward County: Regular pickup.
For those residents of other municipalities, check with your city, town or village.
U.S. Postal Service
All USPS offices will be closed on Saturday. No mail delivery either.
Banks
The Federal Reserve Bank is open on Friday, but not Saturday. As for individual banks’ branches, check with your bank, but expect them to be open on Friday, probably closed on Saturday.
Public schools
Miami-Dade: Closed on Friday.
Broward: Closed on Friday.
Library branches
Miami-Dade: Closed on Friday, open normal hours on Saturday.
Broward: Closed on Friday, open normal hours on Saturday.
County offices
Miami-Dade: Closed on Friday.
Broward: Closed on Friday.
Clerk of the courts offices
Miami-Dade: Closed on Friday.
Broward: Closed on Friday.
Stock markets
NASDAQ: Open on Friday
New York Stock Exchange: Open on Friday.
