Windy weather expected through Saturday morning, forecasters say
Whether you’re enjoying the windy, overcast conditions that have blown in comfortable temperatures or not, get used to them — at least until sometime Saturday — forecasters say.
On Thursday morning, South Florida was in the peak of what the National Weather Service is calling a “near gale.” Frequent gusts are blowing consistently between 25 and 35 mph, and a “land advisory” has been issued for areas farther inland.
The wind has created some hazardous beach and offshore conditions, forecasters say.
Chris Rothwell, lead meteorologist with National Weather Service Key West, said conditions should decrease some throughout Friday, and by Saturday, the agency’s small craft advisory could be lifted in some areas, Rothwell said.
“November is the windiest month in Florida historically,” he said.
As of Thursday morning, the highest sustained gusts have been recorded at the weather service’s stations at Government Cut in Miami Beach and Carysfort Reef Lighthouse off Key Largo — 30 and 40 mph respectively, Rothwell said.
The high winds ushered in cooler temperatures between the mid-to-upper 70s and low 80s, according to the weather service.
