Publix is open. A popular big box isn’t. Garbage pickup? Depends. What’s open on July 4

Tuesday brings another July 4, Independence Day, the national birthday for the United States. And there’s nothing more stars and stripes than making a buck, either by having your business open or working for overtime holiday pay.

So, rare is the business that’s closed, although one major retailer that closes on almost every national holiday will be closed on this one. Some of your tax dollars also will be at work, although most will be at rest.

Here’s what’s open and what’s closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Supermarkets

Publix: Stores open. Many pharmacies, however, will be closed.

Winn-Dixie/Fresco Y Mas: Stores open.

Sedano’s: Stores open.

Milam’s Market: Stores open.

Aldi: Stores open. Many will close at 4 p.m.

Fresh Market: Stores open.

Whole Foods Market: Stores open.

Presidente Supermarket: Stores open.

Price Choice Supermarket: Stores open.

Chain Drugstores

Walgreens: Stores open, but pharmacy hours will vary from closed to open 24 hours.

CVS/Navarro: All stores are open, but not all pharmacies are open.

Big Box stores

Walmart: Open.

Target: Open, but many pharmacies close at 2 p.m.

Costco: Closed.

BJ’s Wholesale: Open.

Shopping Malls

They’re open. Some will close earlier than usual for a weekday.

Mass Transit

Miami-Dade Transit: Metrorail and Metromover will work on a weekend schedule and Metrobus will work on a Sunday schedule.

All administrative and customer service offices will be closed. But, STS customers can still make or cancel reservations at 305-871-1111.

Broward County Transit: Operating on a Sunday schedule. No Express and Breeze bus service. The Northeast Transit Center, Martin Luther King Boulevard and Dixie Highway, will be closed.

Fixed-route and paratransit service help will be available at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The same hours will find staff at the Broward Main Terminal, 101 NW First Ave., and Lauderhill Transit Center, 1359 NW 40th Ave.

Tri-Rail: Tri-Rail will operate on a weekend/holiday schedule.

Garbage

Miami: Normal pickup.

Miami-Dade: Garbage will not be picked up. Recycling will be collected as scheduled.

Fort Lauderdale: Normal pickup.

Broward County: If the county gets your trash, garbage, bulk and recycling will be collected as normal. The Broward County Landfill, however, will be closed.

If you live in areas not serviced by the above entities, check with your municipality.

U.S. Postal Service

Branches will be closed and there won’t be mail delivery except Priority Mail Express.

Stock Markets

The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will be closed. Each exchange will close early, at 1 p.m., on Monday.

Libraries

Miami-Dade: All locations closed, but the online library remains open for your media consumption.

Broward: Branches closed, but the online library remains open for your Indepdence Day reading pleasure.

County offices and courts

Miami-Dade: Closed.

Broward: Closed.
