A northwest Miami-Dade house fire led to the death of two puppies and a person being injured, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and news reports said.

Two puppies were killed and an older woman was injured in a Thursday morning house fire in Florida City, reports said.

Around 7:40 a.m., MDFR said more than 10 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units rushed to the home in the area of Northwest Eighth Avenue and Northwest 12th Street.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames while stopping the fire from proliferating to nearby homes.

MDFR noted there were several animals inside the home, as well as at least one person who was taken to a local hospital. Miami-Dade Animal Services were called to pick them up.

Justin Roberson, the homeowner, told NBC 6 that he, his pregnant wife, mother-in-law and six kids were able to get out in time. The fire started in his mother-in-law’s room. She uses an oxygen machine.

“I ran in and it was small,” he explained to the station. “I ran to grab a bucket and tried to fill it up at least halfway but by the time I got back, it was out of control. Words can’t explain.”

Roberson said his two dogs, Lexi and Diamond, died in the blaze but several bulldog mix puppies survived.
