First Dade baby of 2023? Couple welcomes newborn one minute after midnight at Jackson
As fireworks burst across the sky after the clock struck midnight Sunday, Ingrid Gonzalez, 24, and Roibyn Diaz, 26, welcomed their third child at Jackson South Medical Center in Kendall.
Nelson Diaz Gonzalez — named after his grandfather — was born at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, meaning he might be Miami-Dade County’s first baby of 2023.
“I never thought the baby would be born this day,” Gonzalez said. “Truly, I feel so happy.”
Gonzalez, who went into labor at about 8 p.m. Saturday, thanked the hospital staff for making her experience positive.
Baby Nelson weighs seven pounds and 2.6 ounces and is 20 inches long. He is the couple’s second son. They also have one daughter.
Local 10 News reported that at 12:05 a.m., Baptist Health in Homestead delivered a baby boy weighing seven pounds and four ounces.
The earliest South Florida newborn of 2023 may be in Coral Springs, where Broward Health reported that it delivered a five pound, 13 ounce baby girl at midnight, according to the Local 10 report.
