Is Publix open? Malls? Any garbage pickup? What’s running, and when, on Thanksgiving
Almost everything stops for Thanksgiving Day. But, if you have to make an emergency run for rolls because someone decided they were delicious straight out of the package or you forgot that you’re almost out of Sazon Completa, you can still find some stores open in South Florida.
Here’s a list of supermarkets, drugstores and government services that are open or closed Thursday and Friday:
Supermarkets
Publix: All stores and pharmacies closed Thanksgiving Day.
Winn-Dixie and Fresco Y Mas: All stores and pharmacies closed Thanksgiving Day.
Sedano’s: Open Thanksgiving Day 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Presidente: Open, but check your preferred location for hours.
Milam’s Market: Open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Price Choice Supermarkets: Open, but check your preferred location for hours.
The Fresh Market: Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Whole Foods Market: Open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
Trader Joe’s: All stores closed.
Pharmacy chains
CVS/Navarro: Stores open. Navarro pharmacies likely closed. Some CVS pharmacies are closed, others open, hours differ by location.
Walgreens: Most stores will be open, some with reduced hours, but almost all the pharmacies will be closed. The pharmacy at 1475 NW 12th Ave., inside Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Big Box stores
Costco: All stores closed.
Target: All stores closed.
Walmart: All stores closed.
B.J’s Wholesale Club: All stores closed.
Shopping malls
Aventura Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 8 a.m. Friday.
Broward Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 7 a.m. Friday.
Coral Square: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Dadeland Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Dolphin Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 8 a.m. Friday.
The Falls: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 7 a.m. Friday.
Florida Keys Outlet Marketplace: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Miami International Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Sawgrass Mills: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 6 a.m. Friday.
Westland Mall: Closed on Thanksgiving Day. Open at 8 a.m. Friday.
Mass transit
Miami-Dade: Metrorail and Metromover will operate on a weekend schedule and Metrobus on a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, all three will operate on a weekday schedule. Administrative offices will be closed Thursday and Friday. Special Transportation Service customers can still reserve or cancel a trip by calling 305-871-1111.
Broward: Broward County Transit will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Thanksgiving Day and a weekday schedule on Friday. Customer Service will be available to provide trip-planning assistance at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) for fixed and paratransit routes on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Also on Thursday, Customer Service staff will be available from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at BCT’s Main Terminal, 101 NW First Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, and Lauderhill Transit Center, 1359 NW 40th Ave.
Tri-Rail: Thanksgiving Day service will run on a weekend/holiday schedule.
Garbage on Thanksgiving Day
Miami: Normal.
Miami-Dade: Normal.
Fort Lauderdale: Normal.
Broward County: None.
Other municipalities, check with your waste management provider.
U.S. Postal Service
Thanksgiving Day, no. Friday, yes.
Courts, county offices, schools
Miami-Dade: Closed Thursday and Friday.
Broward: Closed Thursday and Friday.
Banks, stock and bond markets
Closed on Thursday. The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ end at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Libraries
Miami-Dade: Brick and mortar locations are closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday, but the online version of the library will be open.
Broward: Brick and mortar locations closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, but the online catalog is always open.
