Firefighters extinguish brush fire in south Miami-Dade, Florida Forest Service says
A brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in south Miami-Dade County was extinguished hours later, according to officials.
Firefighters fully contained the flames in the vicinity of Trinity Pineland County Park — west of South Miami — by 8:30 p.m., said David Rosenbaum, spokesman with the Florida Forest Service.
What caused the 10-acre fire remains unknown, Rosenbaum said, but fire marshals determined it was “incendiary,” meaning that it was intentionally ignited under circumstances in which the person knows the fire should have not been ignited.
No one was injured or asked to evacuate their homes, and no structures were affected other than a shed, authorities said.
Around 3:45 p.m., more than 10 Miami-Dade firefighters along with Florida Forest Service responded to the blaze near Southwest 72nd Court and Southwest 76th Street, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said Wednesday evening in a news release.
Firefighters found a large amount of trees on fire, with it spreading to a shed in the area, and urged people to keep their doors and windows shut. Crews extinguished the fire over four hours after it started.
